The MTM ASSOCIATION e. V., respectively the MTM Institute, has been conducting and supporting labour science research on a national and international level for more than 20 years. In addition to its own research activities, the industry association is a partner in joint projects around the industry 4.0. With the research project ELIAS - Engineering and Mainstreaming of learning-promoting industrial work systems for industry 4.0 - MTM has again clearly focused on work-oriented learning in industry and services. The MTM institute now brings the competence and experience around digital learning and digital assistance into the work of the VDI technical committee 7.22 "Working World Industry 4.0". According to Prof. Dr. Thomas Mühlbradt, head of work policy and work systems of the future at MTM and member of the VDI technical committee, special attention is paid by MTM to the practical orientation.
Constant change requires constant learning
"We have always proceeded from the premise that constant change requires constant learning. And that can only happen close to the workplace. In order for employees to learn how to use and master the new technologies of Industry 4.0, work-oriented teaching and learning concepts must be developed and the appropriate framework conditions created. These concepts and framework conditions, such as a work organization in the company that promotes learning or digital training, were and are the subject of our research," describes Mühlbradt.
Personnel development on the shop floor
How are the demands on workers changing with increasing automation and digitalization? Which new functions and competences will have to be established on the shop floor in the future? How can workers be supported at their workplaces? Digital learning and digital assistance are meanwhile also an integral part of the MTM ASSOCIATION e. V.'s own training and consulting offers - up to the establishment of complete work-related training centres in industry, such as the example of Leopold Kostal GmbH & Co. KG in Lüdenscheid shows. "Personnel development on the shop floor is a top topic in Industry 4.0 - and a top topic also for MTM and all MTM users", says Mühlbradt.
