On January 1, 2024, Dr. Li Zhen passed the baton to the next generation of MTM enthusiasts in China. The new Managing Director of MTM (Shanghai) Enterprise Management Consulting Co, Ltd, a subsidiary of Deutsche MTM-Gesellschaft mbH, is Wei Jiang, previously Deputy Managing Director and Head of Consulting and Software Services of One-MTM Partner. We talked to him about his mentor, the development of MTM in China and the challenges of the future.

MTM in China is inextricably linked with the name of Dr. Li Zhen. What is your personal connection to your predecessor?
Dr. Li Zhen founded MTM in China and is also my mentor. It was from him that I received my first MTM-1 certificate. That was in 2011 when I was still a student. After graduating in 2012, I joined the Deutsche MTM-Gesellschaft mbH as a project engineer. In 2018, Dr. Li invited me to join his team in Shanghai. Especially during the pandemic years, we went through difficult times together with the whole team. I really admire his diligence and also his rigor. He has laid a solid foundation for the continued successful development of the company. I am very pleased that Dr. Li will remain with us as a senior expert and support us in the years to come.

What tasks and challenges are you currently facing?
The needs of customers in China are very diverse. We have customers who are already using MTM to digitize their work processes, and we also have customers who are just starting to collect time data or set up a time management system. And in general, customers in China expect us to be more flexible and responsive. These are the biggest challenges we are facing right now.

MTM (Shanghai) Enterprise Management Consulting Co., Ltd. is a partner in the One-MTM network. How important is the international cooperation for you?
Our customers benefit a lot from the One-MTM network. They can rely on the same standard of methods and comprehensive services at any production location in the world – even if these locations are beyond our reach. At the same time, we are able to support the customers of other MTM partners in the network in China. I am convinced that this kind of cooperation will be expanded in the future.

How do Chinese customers benefit from the development work done at the headquarters of the One-MTM partner network, the MTM ASSOCIATION e. V.?
A concrete example is the MTM-1® Base E-Learning. This training has been offered in Chinese since last year and has been very well received by our customers. Next the MTM-UAS® E-Learning will be available in Chinese. The same applies to consulting and MTM software solutions: We offer the MTM standard in China and in Chinese. Ultimately, each partner contributes to the success of the One-MTM network and thus to the success of our customers.

What are your hopes for the future of MTM (Shanghai) Enterprise and its customers in China?
MTM in China started with an office in 2005; the subsidiary was established in 2009. To date, we have delivered products and services to more than 300 customers and issued about 6,000 certificates for successful MTM training. We are very proud that we have helped so many companies to ensure healthy and productive work. I hope that in the coming years we will be able to offer MTM to even more customers and that even more companies will benefit from the standard industrial engineering method.
